A day of happiness turned into a time of terror for Henryetta high school band members.
The Knight Brigade had just finished marching in the OSU homecoming parade Saturday and were putting their equipment away when a vehicle ran into the crowd.
The incident took place near the Hall of Fame and Main Street in Stillwater. At least two fatalities were reported and a number of people injured.
students back"We had finished and I was feeding the band members and putting their stuff up," said band director Alan Montgomery. "We heard a thud and I thought it could have been a bomb. I got the kids on the bus and did a head count."
Once he determined all the students were present, the loading process continued.
"We are coming back to Henryetta now," he said in a phone interview at 11 a.m. Saturday. "We are not going to stay for the awards presentation."
One of the Henryetta students recounted the band had just marched through the area where the tragedy happened.
Stillwater police captain Kyle Gibbs said Adacia Chambers was arrested for driving under the influence. She was said to have driven south down Main Street then struck a police motorcycle and ran into the crowd of people.
