There are a lot of famous names associated with Henryetta - Hugh henry, Troy Aikman, Jim Shoulders and Alice Ghostley, to name a few.
One Henryettan came to fame in Hollywood but, because he is best known for his stage name, his past is relatively obscured here.
potter awardsWilliam Moore was born April 14, 1905 in Henryetta. He went to school here, even saw action on the football field.
After graduation in 1923, he moved to New Mexico then to California where his dreams for show business flourished.
William Moore became Peter Potter and, under that handle, he appeared in a number of movies then saw his star really shine as a disc jockey first on radio then on the fledgling television industry.
Peter Potter's "Juke Box Jury" television program drew some of the top names in show business including Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Fred Astaire, Frank Sinatra and so many more.
In all some 2,600 stars would be shaking hands with the Henryetta native.
peter potterAlong the way, Potter (Moore) would receive three Emmy Awards and be nominated for six others.
The lights finally went off when he died in Palm Springs Calif., April 17, 1983. He is buried in Desert Memorial Park at Cathedral City, Calif.
While he is gone, his memory will be living on this Saturday as the Henryetta Historical Society annual Founders Day banquet and silent auction remembers him.
Some of his family will be present during the evening and have donated a portrait of Moore to the Territorial Museum.
The banquet will be held at the high school cafeteria starting at 6 p.m.
A silent auction will be held with proceeds going to defray costs of museum operations.
Tickets to the dinner are $25 each.
