| There has been a lot of discussion about how to improve Nichols Park and make it more attractive. This past year city crews have been busy cleaning out a lot of brush as well as establishing an off-road track and trail. The former swim beach has been cleaned out and sand spread out. That brought a number of families out to enjoy the lake with swimming and lounging around. Future plans call for the bath house to undergo repairs. The city is also exploring the possibility of adding floating recreational devices to create a water park at the lake. |

| City manager Ted Graham covered the work and future plans during an interview this past week. He said the water park idea is something that will appeal to the entire family but there has to be some planning as to the operation. "Do we hire a group of people to run it for the city or do a private/government partnership to a company?," he asked. He pointed out it would take some staffing to do it the right way.  He said estimates call between 150 to 300 people per day to use the water park.That would also entail new rest room facilities as well as renovations to the bath house. "We are going to try and have some public meetings to determine where we are going to go next." Another Crazy Snake Festival is not out of the question Graham said. He pointed out the weather did not cooperate last year but felt it would still be a viable attraction. Looking toward the future, Graham said an improved baseball/softball venue would attract people from as far away as Dallas and Kansas. "That's not out of the question. If we planned it right, we could have intramural leagues and advertise it as a city/county location." |
