Terry Ray Mordecai, a resident of Henryetta, died Jan. 13, 2016 in Henryetta at the age of 69. He was born Nov. 20, 1946 in Henryetta to Albert M. Mordecai and Geraldine (Wade) Mordecai. Terry was a 1965 graduate of Dewar High School. He married Gloria Jean Amerson-Garrett March 27, 2005 in Estes Park, Colo. He was a member of Dewar First Baptist Church, served on the board for McIntosh County Rural Water, was an avid Hamm radio operator and had served as an auxiliary deputy for the Okmulgee County Sheriffs office. He also served in the Army National Guard and was on the Governor's Rifle Team for 13 years.
Terry retired from McDonnell-Douglas as an aircraft assembly specialist after many years. Terry began volunteering helping to maintain and clean New Sonora Cemetery and then began covering graves and maintaining all aspects of the cemetery.
Terry is survived by his loving wife, Jeannie of the home in rural Henryetta; children: Terry R. Mordecai, Jr. and wife Donna of Miami, T. J. Mordecai and wife Courtney of Henryetta, Tia Christian and husband Thomas of Bixby, Deana Gilroy and husband Mike of Henryetta and Bobby Gene Stidman and wife Heather of Schulter; 16 grandchildren and one great grandson; mother, Geraldine Mordecai of Dewar; brother, Ronnie Mordecai and wife Debra of Edmond; sister, Sharon Sawyer and husband Bernel of Longmont, Colo.; as well as a host of nieces, nephew, cousins, friends and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Smallwood, Lane Lawson, Jeffrey Kinsey, Thomas Christian, Kent Hughes, and Jeff Hughes.
Viewing will be Friday, January 15, 2015 from noon until 8 p.m. at Integrity Funeral Service.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the United Pentecostal Church in Dewar with Rev. Jack Vance, officiating. Interment will follow in New Sonora Cemetery under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
