After 48 years, a Henryetta soldier is going to be honored by the state.
anthony grundyLance Corporal Anthony Grundy is going to have part of Interstate 40 named in his honor.
The resolution marking that designation of the highway from just west of Henryetta to the Indian Nation turnpike passed unanimously through the Senate Thursday.
According to Senator Roger Thompson, the resolution will go to Gov. Mary Fallin for her signature. It will become active in November and signs marking the honor will be placed sometime in 2017.
Grundy, who was 21 when he died, was a member of the Third Battalion, First Marine Division. He and the rest of his company were in Quang Nam Province in Vietnam when he was killed by an explosion July 7, 1968.
He was returned to Oklahoma and is interred at Clearview.
He had attended Henryetta high school before joining the Marines.
