A Midwest City woman died in a series of accidents on Interstate 40 Friday afternoon after heavy smoke obscured the roadway.
i 40 crashKelli Wilson, 20, was a passenger in a car driven by Jennifer Bizeau, 33, also of Midwest City. The 2010 Honda was eastbound on the interstate and had slowed down because of the poor visibility. It was rear-ended by a semi driven by Daniel McCauley, 23, Lexington, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Bizeau was taken to the Hillcrest Henryetta hospital for treatment of injuries and released.
The OHP said some eight vehicles were involved in a series of accidents that closed down the eastbound side of the highway for some five hours. There were eight people hurt in those accidents but none were considered life-threatening.
The fire, said to be a controlled burn that blackened between 200 to 300 acres, was extinguished by firemen from Henryetta.car line
All eastbound traffic was diverted onto old US 62 resulting in a bumper to bumper line of vehicles from the Pharaoh exit to the west exit at Henryetta.
The OHP is seeking the drivers of a minivan and a motorcycle that had pulled over on the shoulder near the fatal crash scene. It is believed they may have seen the accident and troopers are wanting to interview them. Anyone who witnessed the crash is being asked to call 918-627-3881.
