Henryetta's Main Street is on the schedule to get a new surface in a couple of years.
main streetAt a meeting Wednesday with Oklahoma Department of Transportation, it was announced the resurfacing from Eighth Street to the railroad tracks is on the 2018 road plan.
Darrin Saliba, division engineer, explained the work would be similar to the resurfacing work two years ago that went from Eighth west of town. No cost of the project was given.
Talking to representatives from the city and chamber of commerce, Saliba said the state is looking into realigning the US 75 overpass that crosses the abandoned KO&G railroad line.
Some $4.877 million is projected to e spent on that project.
The idea of removing the shrubs and bushes at the intersections along Main Street was brought up. Chamber officials want to clear out the plants and replace them with metal silhouettes representing everything from cowboys to miners.
Chamber president Jeremy Roberts told him that currently the crepe myrtle bushes grow to the point they can cause a traffic hazard unless they are trimmed close to the ground level. Part of the problem is getting volunteers to clean up the corners. In the past, various businesses have "adopted" corners.
Saliba said he would take the information back to engineers at his Muskogee office to determine how to handle the project.
