Even though rain and storms are in the future this weekend, Henryettans are still making plans to clean up the town.
home pride shirtsHenryetta Home Pride weekend starts Friday with a hotdog cookout at 5 p.m. for all the teams and participants in the event.
The threat of bad weather has moved that cookout to the police department at city hall.
Around ten teams with nearly 200 peple have already registered at the Henryetta Hometown Pride web page according to organizer Kyle Kiner. He said the teams will be hitting deisgnated parts of town picking up trash and debris and even helping residents with their yard work by mowing and weed cutting.
"There will be four large dumpsters set up at the area around the Farmers' Market so people can bring their trash there as well," he added. Those dumpsters will be open until 6 p.m. each night of the four-day cleanup effort. Kiner said the only items that will not be accepted will be hazardous items such as paint, chemicals, batteries and electronic equipment. The Creek Nation Environmental department will have a receiving area for recyclable items next to the baseball field.
Special t-shirts have been ordered to let residents know who is participating in the cleanup effort. Those were donated by the chamber of commerce and Fountain View Manor.
The cleanup is a joint effort with the Henryetta Lions club, chamber of commerce and city government.
