This week veterans of all service branches will be the guests of honor at a series of school assemblies and programs throughout the area.
vet dayThe recognition will begin Thursday, Nov. 10 at Dewar with the annual Veterans Day assembly starting at 9 a.m. at the Dewar United Pentecostal Church. Students will be performing several musical numbers then greet all area veterans. Special gifts will be presented then the veterans will be the guests of honor at a breakfast at the church.
At noon that same day, veterans are invited to attend the Wilson school program. It will be held at the gymnasium starting at noon then followed up with a special luncheon in the cafeteria.
The Henryetta public school Veterans Day program will be held at the high school gymnasium at 9 a.m.
the program will feature performances from the high school band, both high school and middle school choirs and fourth grade music class.
At 10 that same morning, both Ryal and Schulter schools will be holding Veterans Day assemblies in their gymnasiums.
The recognition series will wrap up at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon with dedication of the two plaques bearing the names of service members killed in action at the Henryetta Doughboy statue.
At that dedication, officers from the Henryetta American Legion and VFW will join city council members in honoring those who paid the ultimate price.
The dedication will be held at the Doughboy statue and include performances from the HHS band.
