This is the season of giving and HHS students joined with Henryetta residents to give something special Thursday.
IMG 2521The Oklahoma Blood Institute was at the HHS gym collectng donations from some 31 people and all of it designated to help a local family.
Nathan George was diagnosed with Burkitts lymphoma earlier this year. He went through a grueling round of treatment at Tulsa but the disease came back forcing the family to go to New York for more specialized treatments. Part of that involved blood transfusions at a cost to the George family.
That's where the local effort came in. Each of the 31 pints of blood donated will be earmarked for the HHS athlete and will help reduce the cost to the family.
His family has been staying at the Ronald McDonald House in New York but have still been facing expenses. To help with that, various fundraising efforts from a quilt raffle to special sales have been held.
The 17-year-old still faces a stem cell transplant followed by more chemotherapy.
