A rumor that a Henryetta elementary student had a gun at school Thursday turned out to be just that.
Superintendent Dwayne Noble said several grade school students told principal Kelly Furer a student brought a gun to school.
“She brought the child to her office and, during the conversation, learned that the student did not have a gun Thursday but that student did admit he brought a broken BB gun to school several months ago,” said Noble.
“We called the parents and the student was suspended for the rest of the year. We take these cases seriously and will handle them immediately.”
The decision to use the voice messaging system was made to make sure any rumors of a gun at school were stopped immediately.
Noble pointed out that, at no time, were any students in danger Thursday.
He said the child was put on a homebound status and will be working with a teacher to make sure that all lessons are completed.
