So far 2018 has started out on a positive note for the city of Henryetta finances. The second sales tax check of the year shows another gain, albeit a small one.
The city received $220,015.56 in sales taxes for February, an increase of $8,212 from a year ago. Last year, February was one of only two months that had an increase in sales tax revenue.
By contrast, the state’s use tax check to the town was significantly less, $13,793 in February compared to $21,269 a year ago.
Henryetta mayor Jennifer Clason said she was pleased over the growth in sales tax revenue. "I want ot thank all our citizens and surrounding cities for spending their money locally because that's what keeps rural cities alive," she said.
She was cautious about the increase  pointing out, $200,000 doesn't go far and that is all we get to fund and take care of this city."
The sales tax increase mirrored the overall state increase for the month. Statewide, $153,564,029 was sent out to cities and towns this year, an increase of $11,839,109 from the $141,724,920 distributed in 2017.
Around the area, Dewar’s sales tax check of $10,282, was down by $650 from a year ago.
Okmulgee’s city return this year amounted to $529,129.49, a nearly $15,000 jump from last year.
Okemah reported a gain of over $5,000 with a check in February for $9,477 compared to $4,149 a year ago.
The state sales tax check to Okmulgee County was up $8,000 to $297,728.
