Years of water cascading over the spillway at Nichols Park have been taking a toll on the ground and that came to a head this week. Erosion has washed away the soil and subsurface under Lake Road creating a danger of losing the pavement. Okmulgee County District 3 commissioner James Connor said he is hauling in rocks and fill material to repair the damage. Those repairs are expected to be done later this week which means traffic will be restricted to one lane for a short period. "There has been contention in the past over whether it is the county or city responsibility but we are working together to make these repairs," he said.
