The new fiscal year for Henryetta’s city government started July 1 and that brought some welcome financial news.
Henryetta’s sales tax return this month amounted to $296,695.38, a $4,050 gain from last year and just over $10,000 above what was collected last month.
With the exception of four July returns in the past 10 years, the city has shown an uptick in sales tax monies. Declines were reported in 2015, 2017,2019 and 2021.
A look back at sales tax returns show 2016 sales tax returns were consistently on the red side. That fiscal year saw declines in sales tax returns for nine of the 12 months. Since then the town has rebounded with positive turns since.
Adding to the city finances was the $34,693.14 collected in use tax money. That was a $3,677 gain from a year ago and stopped four consecutive months of declines in use tax revenue.
Nearby Okmulgee had a positive return picking up a $689,009 check from the state for $35,823 increase.
Okemah was also on the positive side with $127,530 this month compared to $115,704 a year ago.
Dewar was up $4,564 with the July check for $19,042.
Weleetka and Morris both reported declines in sales tax returns. Weleetka was down $820 from the $18468 a year ago and Morris saw a $2,891 drop to $$25,261 this year.
Statewide, $203,202,715 in sales tax collections went back to the cities and towns reflected an increase of $8,545,831 from the $194,656,884 distributed to them in July last year.
