Members of the Henryetta Economic Development Authority (HEDA) are collecting applications and resumes for the vacant position on the six-member board.
At the August meeting Monday, Authority members said several people have expressed an interest in serving. It is a five-year term.
“At one point anyone interested in serving was asked to bring a resume and appear at a HEDA meeting to give their qualifications and reasons they want to serve,” said Authority member Bruce Jones.
Two people present Monday morning, Kanon Bailey and Steve Sanford, said they were interested in serving on the Authority.
Jim Beymer told Sanford he could not serve since the indenture calls for one member of the council to be serving. Currently the council position is held by Jana Cluck.
Sanford said he wanted to see that and went on to tell the members he wants to be more active in the community. “The way I look at it, the more I get involved the better for the town.” Sanford was just elected to the council. He is the owner of Rustlers Barbecue.
Bailey said he and his brother Cade manage several rental properties in town. He pointed out they brought in two businesses on East Main and, “helped others. We try to help out the town the best we could.”
In old business Beymer said a 99-year lease approved by HEDA to Deep Fork Community Action Agency still has not been sent from the city.
That lease was the first step toward the agency constructing several new homes. The project was approved by HEDA and sent to the city council over a year ago.
