Command Sergeant Major Bennie G Adkins will be grand marshall of the 2015 Weleetka Pride Day Parade. The Oct. 3 parade will begin at 1 p.m. on Weleetka's Main Street.
Members of the Daughters of American Revolution will host a meet and greet reception for him at the First Free Will Baptist Church of Weleetka at 915 S Creek Street at 10 a.m.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
adkinsCommand Sergeant Major Adkins received the Medal of Honor for his actions while serving as an intelligence sergeant assigned to Detachment A-102, 5th Special Forces, First Special Forces. Sergeant First Class Adkins distinguished himself during combat operations at Camp A Shaua, Republic of Vietnam March 9 through March 12, 1966.
The Medal of Honor is awarded to members of the Armed Forces who distinguish themselves conspicuously for gallantry above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in action against an enemy of the United States; engaged in military operations involved in conflict with an opposing foreign force or serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United State is not a belligerent party.
He is the brother of Gerrol and Jim Adkins of Weleetka.
