Okmulgee GOP Senate District 8 Candidate Forum: A Look at the Contenders

Okmulgee, OK — On Saturday, February 1, 2025, the Okmulgee County Republicans hosted a town hall for the GOP candidates vying for Senate District 8. Each candidate introduced themselves, sharing their background, values, and vision for the district. The forum was moderated by former Okmulgee County Assistant District Attorney Jack “C” Osborne and was live-streamed by The Henryettan.

MEET THE CANDIDATES

Brian Logan (Payden)

A general contractor and pastor at Payden Holiness Church, Brian Logan emphasized his dedication to serving the community. He has lived in District 8 his entire life and is passionate about upholding conservative values. Logan stated that his motivation for running is to bring moral integrity and strong leadership to the state legislature. His priorities include protecting family values, enhancing public safety, and supporting small businesses.

David Nelson (Morris)

A retired U.S. Army Ranger and Black Hawk pilot, David Nelson served 20 years in the military before returning home to District 8. A proud supporter of Oklahoma’s oil and gas industry, he previously worked in the field and now serves as a tag agent, engaging with the community daily. Nelson credited his military and public service experience for shaping his leadership approach. His platform focuses on protecting the energy sector, improving public safety, and ensuring veterans’ rights.

Steven Baldrige (Okmulgee)

A three-time mayor and current city councilman of Okmulgee, Steven Baldrige has lived in District 8 for 25 years. With a background in information technology and experience in both the private and public sectors, he emphasized his commitment to economic development, job creation, and education. Baldrige expressed his desire to promote District 8’s potential, particularly through improving infrastructure and increasing business opportunities.

Hoss Durrett (Checotah)

A lifelong resident of Checotah and a small business owner, Hoss Durrett highlighted his experience in local economic development as vice chairman of the Industrial Development Authority. He has worked on infrastructure improvements to attract businesses to the district. Durrett, whose wife is a high school counselor, underscored the importance of education and economic growth, advocating for policies that support small businesses and workforce development.
