Summer Reading Program Roars to Life at Henryetta Public Library

The first meeting of the Henryetta Public Library’s Summer Reading Program took place on Monday, June 1, 2026, and it was an exciting adventure back in time for local children. Participants traveled several million years into the past to explore the fascinating world of dinosaurs and learn about the creatures that once roamed the Earth.

Special guests Amber Mordecai and Mylena Poulton from the Henryetta Lions Club helped kick off the program by reading Dinosaurs by Kathleen Weidner Zoehfeld. The interactive presentation captured the attention of the young audience as they discovered interesting facts about many different types of dinosaurs.

Children learned how some dinosaurs were covered in scales while others had feathers. They explored how dinosaurs moved, whether they walked on two legs or four, and discussed the differences between meat-eating carnivores and plant-eating herbivores. The group also examined the various types of teeth dinosaurs had and how those teeth helped them survive in their environments.

In addition to learning about dinosaurs themselves, participants were introduced to the scientists who study these ancient creatures. The children discovered that these experts are called paleontologists and learned how they use fossils and other evidence to uncover clues about life millions of years ago.

The afternoon was filled with curiosity, questions, and excitement as the children immersed themselves in the prehistoric world. The Summer Reading Program continues next week with another dinosaur-themed adventure, giving participants the opportunity to dig even deeper into the mysteries of these incredible creatures.
