Henryetta Methodist Church Continues 20-Year Thanksgiving Tradition

The Henryetta First United Methodist Church is once again spreading the spirit of gratitude by offering a free Thanksgiving Day meal to anyone who wants or needs one. The annual tradition, now in its 20th year, features a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings and is open to the entire community.

This year, the church aims to serve more than 300 meals to friends, families, neighbors, and even strangers. The event reflects the congregation’s deep commitment to fellowship and giving back during this special season.

The tradition began decades ago when a few families in the church gathered to share a Thanksgiving meal. In the early 2000s, the tradition was revived and expanded to welcome those in the community who might not have a place to celebrate or find it impractical to prepare a large meal for just a few people. Over time, participation grew steadily, with last year’s drive-thru lunch serving nearly 300 people—a record turnout that nearly exhausted the church’s food supply.

Organizing an event of this scale takes dedication and effort, supported by the church’s parishioners and volunteers. What started as a modest gathering has evolved into an opportunity to share hospitality, kindness, and gratitude with the broader Henryetta community.

This year’s meal will be served Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, from Noon to 2 p.m. at the church, located at 1212 South Lake Road. All are welcome to enjoy a warm meal and good company. For more information, contact the church office at 918-652-4452.

The Henryetta First United Methodist Church invites everyone to join in celebrating Thanksgiving together. Happy Thanksgiving!
