Special election set for District 8 senate seat

On the heels of the resignation announcement from Roger Thompson, a special election to fill his seat has been set.

Gov. Kevin Stitt issued a proclamation today calling for the election to be held March 4, 2025. Candidates seeking the Senate District 8 seat have to file between Jan 6 and 8, 2025. That filing be held with the State Election Board and Okmulgee County election board.

Thompson resigned effective Nov. 1 while in his third and final term in office. He has since been named CEO and Executive Director of the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association (OOA), effective July 1.
