Voters approve sales tax extension June 18

By a two-thirds majority Henryetta voters approved a ten-year extension of the once-cent sales tax Tuesday.

A total of 218 votes were cast in favor of the extension while 111 people voted against it. The bulk of the votes came Election Day with 294 people going to the polls. Absentee balloting saw the measure receiving 14 votes in favor and two against it.

Early voting was closer with ten in favor and nine against. That turnout was nearly half of the total who voted in 2014 to extend the tax. There were 765 people making the trip to the polls then with 569 voting for it and 196 against.
