British Tycoon Mike Lynch and Daughter Among Missing After Yacht Sinks Off Sicily; One Officially Dead
A one-year-old baby is among the survivors after being kept afloat by her mother.
British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter are among six tourists missing after their luxury yacht capsized and sank in stormy weather off the coast of Sicily.
The 56-meter yacht, Bayesian, was anchored near Porticello, close to Palermo, when it was struck by a tornado and capsized shortly before 5 a.m. Fifteen guests were rescued from the water.
Reports indicate that four of the missing passengers are British and two are American. One body has been recovered.
Salvatore Cocina, director general of Sicily’s civil protection agency, confirmed that 18-year-old Hannah Lynch and her father are among the missing, along with the yacht’s chef, Ricardo Thomas.
The British-flagged superyacht was carrying 10 crew members and 12 passengers at the time of the incident. Mr. Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, was among those rescued, according to local media.
