Israeli Labour Union Leader Demands General Strike Because Of Hostage Crisis
Israel’s Histadrut labour union leader Arnon Bar-David, who speaks on behalf of hundreds of thousands of public sector employees, has declared that there will be a general strike starting at 6 a.m. Monday, or 3 a.m GMT. This is informing the strikers to to compel the government to negotiate for the release of the remaining Israeli hostages held in the Gaza by the Hamas as reported by Reuters.
Bar-David called upon all civilian employees to go on strike and declared Ben Gurion Airport which serves as the major civilian airport in Israel would remain shut down starting 0800 GMT.
‘Gaza tunnels are nothing but killing zones for Jews,’ said Bar-David in a press briefing in Tel Aviv after a working session with the Hostages and Missing Families Forum. These remarks followed the verification on the actual death of six more hostages kidnapped by Hamas on October 7th.
