Manila, Philippines July 25 – Constant rains brought by Typhoon Gaemi/Carina and the southwest monsoon led to severe flooding that brought Manila to a standstill as well as much off Luzon Island.

The massive flooding, which reached waste deep in some areas, prompted the government to evacuate residents near Manila Bay and along rivers to safer locations. Schools and offices remained closed, and local authorities also evacuated people from coastal areas in the central and southern regions of the Philippines.

More than 100 flights were canceled at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Thursday according to airport officials.
In response, government offices in the national capital region were shut down on Wednesday and Thursday.
