Typhoon Shanshan leave a trail of destruction on Kyushu region in Japan

The Typhoon Shanshan affected the southern part of the island of Kyushu in Japan yesterday with maximum sustained wind speed of 156 mph; Millions of people had to be evacuated. When Shanshan landed on Kyushu it was termed as powerful as Category 4 hurricane standard, which makes this one the worst typhoon that hit the area. At least five people died in the storm.

This year’s Typhoon Bopha that struck the Philippines in last December was the worst as mostly it flooded the place and more than 2 feets rain fell within a day. These led to many people rendering without electricity supply, transport systems being affected and more vulnerability to cases of landslides and floods. It is expected that Shanshan will track northeastward until this morning then turn eastward crossing Honshu later in the day.

Statistically, it is established that the Northwest Pacific basin, breeding storm like Shanshan in this case is representative of 25 storms per year. If to compare with previous year, when only one typhoon was occurred and gas made a landfall in Japan. Typhoons and hurricanes are similar rotating storm systems, distinguished primarily by their location: typhoons are located in Northwest part of the Pacific and hurricanes are located in North Atlantic and Northeast part of the Pacific.
